KungFuElvis's Blog
avatar Description:
I will try to put down some thoughts on poker and life in general here.

Well I took a nice suckout the other day and was wondering if anyone else out there is calling me down in this scenario with the big stack. Ithink he probably calls even if I shove the flop, but with only a str8 draw out I felt a value bet was the better play, obv backfire. This guy actually went on to win the tourney (scary) but does he really think bottom pair is good here? I had a tight image having only seen the flop 4 times to this point, winning 1 showdown. Just a lucky donkey or did I miss something.

Oh well, Sh@t happens..lol.

I just haven't had a lot of time lately to get into Multi-table tournaments latetly. Work has been busy, busy, busy.. which is good, but so time consuming that poker has been on the back burner. Last night I decided to trade sleep for poker and hopped in a couple of tourneys.

I started in the $33 MTT on Pokerstars at 11pm EST. Maybe 4 hands into the event I get dealt pocket 5's in the BB. There is a raise, 2 callers, and a big reraise from the button. I thought about it for a minute and folded. It was early and I don't have much luck with playing small pairs out of position. Sure enough, I would flopped a set, turned a boat, and probably tripled up as the 2 players left in the hand both had overpairs to the board, QQ/JJ. That kinda set the stage. I didn't get another decent hand for an hour and half. I eventually blinded down and went out somewhere around the 2nd break.

Well, I could see where the $33 MTT was heading and decided to try the short-handed 6max $77 MTT starting at midnight on stars as well.. I have done pretty well in the small number of 6max tourneys I have played. The players are usually there to gamble. The players at my starting table were playing and raising lots of hands. Somewhere around the 45 min mark of the first round I picked of A7 of spades on the button... Raised the standard 3x and got called by a loose player in the BB. The flop then came Js 7c 4s. The BB led out with a pot size bet I think it was around 300, I raised it up to 1100 committing about 1/3 of my chips.. The BB thinks about it for awhile and shoves over the top and puts me all in. He had been all in several times with mediocre hands so I decided to make the move here and called for all my chips... He turned over 10 10 ... Bam Spade on the river.. and now I got a big stack! I was pretty sure I was hittin' given my previous hand scenarios. That was the last time I was allin until we hit the money... I had a good run, but nothing too exciting.. I got most excited when we got down to 3 tables a guy from copenhagen showed up at the table with 72os.com logo as his avatar. He made a reference something to the effect that he shoulda stayed at Absolute, lol. It is pretty nice to see that we are reaching players in so many parts of the world, and they are doing well. I took a screenshot to share.shorthand72guy.jpg

We got down to 2 tables and I just picked a bad spot to shove. Shoving KQ into a bigger stack with A10 and nothing hit.. That was all she wrote. Ended up 8th but think I played pretty well over all. I will definately play more 6max tourneys in the future.

New PPA Strategy..

iveystare.jpg WASHINGTON D.C. - Leading online poker lobbying group The Poker Player's Alliance (PPA) announced today a sharp turn in their lobbying tactics - thehiring of Phil Ivey for the exclusive purpose of staring at Congressmen who are opposed to online poker regulation.

Michael Bolcerek, president of the PPA , explained the decision. "We thought we were on the right track, what with raising money and hiring insiders like (PPA Chairman) Alfonse D'Amato. And, don't get me wrong," Bolcerek continued, "those were all good steps. But then I saw one of those Full Tilt ads where Ivey's just staring you down and I thought, now there's a guy who can make you crap your pants with a single glare."

The PPA's exact strategy is unclear at this point. Some believe Ivey will be stationed outside of individual Congressmen's offices at times when they're likely to be entering and exiting. Others think he'll be asked to appear at hearings where several targeted Congressmen are likely to be in attendance. Regardless of the specific execution, all sources agree that Ivey will do nothing - not talk, not move, not make a sound - just stand (or sit) and stare.

Critics have pointed out that Ivey, as pants-crappingly scary as he may be, is just one man, and therefore can't possibly intimidate every Congressman when the time for doing so is limited - say, on the eve of a major vote. "We've considered that point, and we have a Plan B," said Bolcerek. "We've already gotten in touch with Johnny Chan and arranged for him to dress as he normally does and stand in the proximity of Congressmen that Ivey hasn't reached yet. We figure exposure to Chan's typical sweater should stun them long enough for Ivey to have sufficient time to arrive."

Funny Stuff..

Some People?

pup9.jpgI can't understand how some people mistreat animals. The other day my wife and I were driving through the country looking for that perfect spotto build our dream home. Miles from anywhere we come across this puppy along the side of the road. Next to it lay a pile of Cheetos, and a half melted bag of ice. It was rail thin and had obviously been mistreated. We just looked at each other in amazement. Who would leave there animal like that? It can't be more than 4 months old. Of course it was very skittish and appeared to be very afraid of men. My wife eventually coaxed it closer and we found it was covered with ticks. Well, that was it, it came home with us..

We have a bit of a dog pack already. 4 dogs in all... Yeah we don't have kids and we baby them bigtime. Well, she fit right in and I felt like the Dog Whisperer or something... There are no bad dogs only bad owners.  As much as I would have liked to keep her, we simply don't have the room here. But My Dad has the perfect place, a dead end road by the river.  His long time Dog died about 3 years ago and he has been hesitant to get one.

He fell instantly in love with her, she is very smart and attentive. The best we can tell she is mostly Rhodesian Hound.  We gave her to him about a week ago and it was great to see how they had bonded.  Needless to say fathers day was extra special this year..

My New Favorite Game

I haven't had much time to play multi-table tournaments lately (my favorite to play), but its not like I can get rid of the poker bug. With limited time, I have been playing 6 max turbo sng's and love them... I think your odds may actually be better than 9 person sng's and here is why. It's not the numbers, they are the same 2/6 or 3/9. It's the donkey factor, countless times 1 or 2 people will go out on the 1st hand or within the 1st orbit. If 2 people go out you now have a 50% chance to money with blinds being tiny. These also suit my style of play, which some of you know to be conservative early and aggressive late. Of course the main benefit to me now is the time. You can win outright in 20-30 minutes max.

If you haven't tried one before, give it a shot or three the next time you are looking for a quick game.

Have a good one.. KFE

Sit N Go Crazy

For the last 6 months or so, I haven't played many sng's.  But I have been on a tear at VegasPoker this week.. I actually made it on their TLB and qualified for a $300 freeroll tonight.  I have been primarily multi-tabling $10 SNG's with a high rate of success.  The games have been pretty soft and I just play tight down to about 4 players and start making moves then or when we hit the money. This strategy has paid off . Here are my stats for this week.

Sng's Played: 54($10 +1)
In the money: 31
1st: 13 ($45)
2nd:10 ($27)
3rd:  8 ($18)

This puts me at $357 profit for ($10+1 sngs)..  I did play a few higher limit games but not enough to track.. There are not really alot of players over $10 on the Vegas/Absolute network.  Seem to be a lot of players will $11 bucks to burn.. I saw countless all ins on the 2nd or 3rd hand with J8 or K7 and the  like...

Well I better get back to playing.. Catch you later,

 KFE
